How to Customize the Subject of Your Feedburner Emails

“What settings do I need to change so my Feedburner emails show the latest blog post title in the subject of the email, instead of the old tagline of my site?”

This question came in from a good friend and fellow coach Tia Singh.

If you are using Feedburner to deliver your blog posts via email you may have noticed that the subject line never changes. You can change the settings in Feedburner to display the name of the blog post it is delivering in the subject line instead of the name of your site, the name of your feed or the tag line of your WordPress blogsite. Here’s how to do it!

How to Customize the Subject of Your Feedburner Emails

  1. Log into Feedburner: http://feedburner.google.com
  2. Choose the feed you want to customize under “Feed Title”
  3. Click the “Publicize” tab across the top
  4. Click “Email Subscriptions” on the left menu bar
  5. Click “Email Branding” in the sub-menu
  6. Input the following in the “Email/Subject title:” field
    ${latestItemTitle}
    This will pick up the title of your blog post and input it in the subject field for you automatically.
  7. In case you write more than one blog post a day click “Change Subject when an email has 2 or more items”
  8. A new field will appear and so will a few examples for you to copy and paste into that field. I choose “${latestItemTitle}” plus ${m} more
    This will display the title of the most recent blog post and “plus 1 more” in the case that I wrote 2 blog posts that day!
  9. Scroll down (all the way down) and click “Save”
