Fake emails are going out to Bluehost customers indicating that they have 1000’s of directories on their account and they must reduce the number of directories they have in order to avoid possible account deactivation and a locked site.
This sounds like an email that would come from the good folks at Bluehost support, however it is not. If you hover over the link in the email, it doesn’t take you to bluehost.com to login to your account. It takes you to civ-blog.ru, or possibly another site. The email is not being sent from Bluehost support, it is being sent by online troublemakers who are trying to acquire your login information.
What to do:
- Put your mouse over the link in the email, without clicking, to ensure it is not from Bluehost. The screenshot below will show you where to look.
- NEVER EVER EVER click on a link in an email that will access your account, get you to login or any link that looks “weird”.
- Call Bluehost to let them know you are experiencing this.
